It’s been a crazy couple of months. Busy as heck in a lot of good ways and making art. I’ve been knocking out covers for my friend, Jeremy Haun’s book THE REALM, which you should definitely read if you’re into urban fantasy or fans of Dungeons and Dragons. I’ve been painting a bunch, too, but nothing I’m really keen on showing. So much development still to go before I’m ready for prime time. Who knows…maybe I’ll never be. Must. Keep. Painting.
I’ve got a bunch of things cooking that I’m hoping will turn into something or at least a steady stream of work. I have two comics series I’m prepping to pitch (edits and art still to do) while waiting on a script for the rest of ENDLESS SUMMER. Good comics take time, and that’s about the only comics I want to make these days. I have some really cool stuff planned for THE PROCESS as well. With two episodes finished in the queue and a dozen more shot I’m feeling pretty good about going into summer. Also, I have PATREON that I’m planning and will hopefully announce by the end of the summer if not before. It’ll give me a chance to teach on my terms and hopefully help fund the upgrading of my systems. Who knew at this level and with all these needs I’d be dipping into the expensive end of the computer pool? yeesh.
In the meantime, you can follow my daily INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK or TWITTER feeds for a slew of quick visual bites. Also consider joining the over 2000+ beautiful and talented voyeurs by becoming a subscriber to my high-quality content-rich exploration in professional art at THE PROCESS. It’s a chance to learn a variety of approaches to many different mediums regardless of skill and style. I swear, you might actually like it! 😀
So far, this year, is shaping up nicely. The unexpected seems to keep happening and for whatever reason I’m going with it. Usually I’m reticent of surprises, good or bad, but I find if stay open to possibilities and put my fear in the rear view mirror, there’s a good chance I’ll enjoy the ride.
The images above are from a horror fantasy that I’ll be pitching later this year. Right now I’m in the middle of another project as seen below. It’s no longer called Dead Man’s Curve but everything else is moving along as planned. The samples below were all a part of the world-building and style process. Somewhere in there is the truth.
Also, I’ve been oil painting every day for at least an hour for the past month. I did something similar when I was 12; drew at least an hour every day and never missed a day for what…11 years! And wouldn’t you know, I got better at it, too. So, I thought, why not get my head on straight and give it a go.
Last year, I did a lot of watercolor, gouache painting and a little acrylic painting, which was great. I’m not about to give all that up, but adding the oil back in has been a wonderful and welcome challenge.
As part of my daily routine, I’ve been pounding away on my second novel, a speculative fiction piece about automata in an alternate Victorian universe. My goal tends to be 2000 words before I finish breakfast which has definitely helped me keep focused.
Otherwise, I’m just keeping up with THE PROCESS.
Be good. Stay strong. And keep creating!
A lot of promise here as I’ve got several pages of full page comics work. Hawaiian Dick and the like. In fact the idea around that story was I awoke to the thought of Abe Vigoda as a hitman…B.Clay Moore wrote up a story about it. =s=
